Vietnam runs $1.85Bln trade deficit with China in Jan-Feb 2012

Vietnam was estimated to run a trade deficit of $1.85 billion with China in the first two months of this year, the General Department of Vietnam Customs said in its website.

The figure is almost 3 times higher than the country’s total trade deficit in the period ($628 million).



In details, Vietnam exported $1.58 billion worth of goods in to China while it spent $3.43 billion to import goods from the neighboring country in Jan-Feb, the data showed.



In February alone, the country reaped $900.86 million from exports to China while it spent $1.801 billion to buy goods from this partner, resulting a trade deficit of $900.14million.



Vietnam‘s export staples to China include rubber, computers and spare-parts, crude oil, cassava and cassava products while it mainly imports petroleum products, chemicals and chemical products, plastic products and fertilizers.



Vietnam has consistently run high trade deficit with the neighboring country for many months that raises worries, according to economists.
